Mauri tū mauri ora – ‘An active soul is a healthy soul.’
The gear you want
SOHEI translates as ‘monk warriors,’ and referred to Buddhist warrior monks of feudal Japan. Known for protecting land, they were a significant factor in the spread of Buddhism of differing schools. Organized into large groups or circles, Sohei did not operate as individuals but instead as warriors in a large extended brotherhood.
We’re a firm believer in the path less traveled. It’s usually arduous and fraught with peril but the rewards always struck us as more profound and fulfilling than things easily achieved. It’s what drew us to our passion for jiu jitsu and adventure.
SOHEI was founded in the middle of serious difficulties and extremely stressful full-time jobs that negatively impacted our families and left some of us chronically sleep deprived. We wer overworked, definitively underpaid and completely burned out. There had to be a better way. We started this company steadily out of belief in that way, of living the life we’d always envisioned. We weren’t some satellite of a large corporation, didn’t have a crew of angel investors, celebrity endorsement or family with deep pockets. All we had was an idea. SOHEI was built through patience and effort. We envisioned a company that made exceptional gear, run by a like minded band of innovative and artistic creatives all seeking the better way. People who worked together, traveled together, shared the same passion for success. We wanted to inspire others to pursue their own version of their ideal life and life adventures. And to do it while designing, wearing, creating and training in some kick-ass stuff.
